Finding a therapist that is a good match can be hard. Even being in the industry I have a hard time with it. There are so many options, and it can be difficult to understand what a particular therapist has to offer, how they work, and if they are the right fit.
My goal with this post is to make it clear what I bring to my practice and clients, and why one might choose to come see me when looking for a therapist.
My work is clinical and holistic. This means that I educate my self so that I know how to do assessments and have a good understanding of how chronic pain works and the mechanism of injuries. This allows me to form a better understanding of what is causing pain or how an injury is deregulating the system. This gives me a clearer picture of what is going on in the body and how to approach it with hands-on work, and tips for life style changes. The sessions will be treatment based and we will follow up every appointment to talk about progress that has been made. When you come see me we will have a conversation about what is going on with your body, your life, and your mind/spirit. If I don't know something I am not afraid to say so and refer out if appropriate, or I will do research to get the information I need to approach the situation in a productive way.
Holistically we will look at social, emotional, and spiritual aspects which have everything to do with the physical body. I want my office to be a safe place where we can openly talk about anger, grief, resentment, and shame which have a huge effect on chronic pain and illnesses. Anger causes inflammation, inflammation causes pathologies. My space is a place where trust is built so you can constructively address and release these emotions.
I don't judge. Like I mentioned, trapped emotions have so much to do with chronic pain and illnesses. The ability to get these trapped emotions out of your body is life changing, but a lot of times we are ashamed about having strong feelings or thoughts. In my space I encourage clients to open up about what is bothering them or making them angry and frustrated in order to get more results out of the body work.
My work is a whole body holistic team work approach to addressing pain patterns.
With me or any therapist don't hesitate to call and have a conversation with them about what you need and what they can offer.
